Hi Alasdair,

It is interesting how people have different views on the place - I'm sure it wasn't the best school around, but I don't recall my education suffered while I was there. I was also lucky enough to spend a couple of years at the military school in Singapore (1969-71) and when I came back to the UK after two years away and slotted back into the same class in the same school in England I was streets ahead of my classmates - so Singapore must have been a great school, academically.

I kept that "lead" up after I came back from Mauritius so I'm pretty sure that my education also kept up while I was there.

As you and others have said, the best part of it all was having the "Mauritian Experience" which is an education all of itself, and one that no classroom anywhere else in the world could have replicated. I wouldn't trade that for the world, and memories from those days will last all of my life.

Cheers,
Ian

My sister and I were there between May 1974 and March 1976 - Susan & Ian Hunneybell.

Dad was FCREA Brian Hunneybell who was down at Tombeau Bay receiver station.

Mr Hague! I do remember you, with reverence I must add. Ever since the day told the class that the capital of Holland was the same as your name - The Hague - I have remembered both their capital and my teacher that day!

I was short and pretty quiet, and a bit of a swot if truth be told, but I did enjoy school in general and my schooldays in Mauritius in particular.

William, I don't recall your name but we may not have been in the same class, and as I say, I was not very outgoing and so probably didn't know many people in the school. I was aged 9-11 while in Mauritius, and my sister was 11-13, maybe one of us was in the same year? I seem to recall there were two classes in each year. What a privileged childhood we had being taught in such a small school.

Thanks for the chance to rekindle memories.

After I grew up I lived in London for 20-odd years and am now in Both, leading a slightly quieter life. Non-military, I'm afraid, I never followed in my father's footsteps, turning to computers instead!

Cheers,
Ian
