Hi,

Des de Souza here.  I just signed in.  I was in Mauritius between 1968 and 1970 in the Comcen in "C" Watch.  I was married out there in 1969 to a Anne-Lise Carosin.  I left the Navy in 1973, and now live in Florida, USA, coming here in 1998 via Saudi Arabia where I worked for 18 years.  I am still working towards my retirement.

Hope someone remembers me from some happy times in Mauritius.  I have already been in contact with Dave Fishenden, Geoff Gale who were both in Mauritius during the same time.

It has been a while, and it's great to come across this website.  Thanks Chris and Mart!! Smiley

Hi Des, I remember you and your wife Anne Lise.  Jock Reid Here. I was in 'C' watch system control as very young JREM.
I especially remember ending up in a sugar field one evening after spending some time at le Chalend. You and the boys had rented a car and had a few sherberts too many. Car was a write off and we all had to pay. Lovely days. Since finding this Website things have started to jump back into ny head, and have been boring my wife with tales of the old days.
Had some good times down at the old Medine Sugar Estate with Michel and Family.
I think I remember Fish and Geoff Gale.
Brian Jones was the RS and I think Charlie Tee, or something like that, was the Tare Sup. maggie Savage the wren and I think Vicki.
Your brother in law Mick, who married Ane Lise's sister. I met them when I went to HMS Mercury after Mauritius, and they came up to meet my family in Scotland with the baby. Where are they now?
Sharky ward was the PO in System Control where I was a a young lad.

I remember the riots where we had to escort Refugees. I was paired up with Dave Hogg. they even gave us a rifle with ammunition. Good job we did the training with the Bootneck Sarge prior to the afternoon watch, otherwise we wouldn't know what to do.
Great days for a young lad.

Des
I remember you from my time there. I was Brian Jones (he was the TARE Supervisor on C watch) eldest son and I certainly remember Dave Fishenden (Fish). I also live in the US (Phoenix) now and have for 13 years.

Hi Des,
If you look at C watch photo on rnca.org.uk website follow Gallery, Comms Afloat, Comms Departments and then at bottom of page 3 is the team. Geoff Gale far right, I am 6th from the right, you are 8th from the left??, I think Alfie Marks 2nd from the left - I recognise many more but names illude me - the years roll on!!!
I am still working and living in Plymouth - nice to see your message on the forum. Geoff Ferguson and I are work colleagues at QHM Plymouth. I remember an incident when we had both been on the 'Phoenix' all day and we had the night shift and my then wife showered us both to try and sober us up!!
Best Regards
Alan Barry

To Alan Barry,

Also in the photo that you speak of is:
Maggie Savage, Charlie Tee, Brian Jones, Dave Fishenden - now lives in Australia, Dave Morris - now lives in Canada, Davey Hogg, Alan Fawcett, Pauline Fawcett (nee 'Noddy' Dunn), Mike Arrow and you must know that Geoff Ferguson is there too.

Has Geoff told you that he is going to our Mauritius Reunion at Portsmouth, 10 October 2009 (our second reunion).
Today, 24 May, 117 people want to go to it. I know that Alfie Marks is going.
The photo you mention to Des de Souza, we have the same one at our 'private' HMS website.
Alfie, Des, Geoff Gale and all those marked in red above are members.

Why don't you come and join us ?

For details of the reunion, or the 'private' website, please email me --->  roberthchase@btinternet.com

REM1 'Charlie' Chase - Comcen, Systems - Nov 73 to Nov 74 ... There is another HMS Mauritius website - 'The M.V. Mauritius Veterans' - a 'private' site, please contact me for details.
